Bad Ischl's urban strolling promenade
Bad Ischl's popular promenade on the Traun riverside connects Sisipark with Kurpark as part of the state horticultural show . It's hard to stay away from the strolling promenade if you want to enjoy the imperial city's flair. Along the historic facades and gorgeous alleys you can take fabulous walks, relax and enjoy yourself.
147 new trees for Esplanade
In 2012 the first heralds for the state horticultural show 2015 were introduced: on Esplanade 147 Kaiserlinden lime trees were planted in order to replace the ageing up to 180-year old trees. According to the historic tree line, grid holes were filled and now complete rows of trees line the promenade. Because all the lime trees are now the same age a homogenous visual appearance is guaranteed. All the trees are big enough to create a dense roof of leaves over the paths for the state horticultural show.
Changing flower magnificence
As a connecting part between Kurpark and Sisipark, Espanade integrates itself into the state horticultural show. In big plant pots along Espanade “Wechselflor” (the ever changing array of flowers) creates horticultural decoration in the urban open space. In spring colourful tulips and crocus bloom while summer presents lush colours and shapes. The long lines of trees also radiate with fresh blossoms in spring, provide cool shades in the summer and glow in all sorts of colours in autumn.
Esplanade in Bad Ischl was built for Archduchess Sophie, mother of Emperor Franz Joseph, in 1830. A memorial stone still remembers her. It was here on Esplanade, in today's Bad Ischl local museum, where Franz Joseph got engaged to princess Elisabeth of Bavaria on 19th August 1853. It was then when the famous Zauner confectionary became purveyor to the Royal Household, because up until then no cake shop in Bad Ischl had been able to meet the imperial requests. Sisi famously had a sweet tooth.
